That is not a theoretical, it is how the system works right now.
Woolworths Groupย announced last month that more than 40 million pieces of soft plastic, 310,000 kg have been collected through their renewed recycling scheme, now running across 700+ stores in five states.
saveBOARD is one of three recycling partners named by Woolworths to process that material. We take the collected soft plastics and compress them into building products for the built environment. That board is now on the walls inside 170 Woolworths stores across Australia.
Woolworths 360 Managing Director Rob McCartney put it simply: '
40 million pieces. 170 stores. The loop closes. If you want to see where they are, check out our ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ท๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฝ which tells you where the stores are located (see link to map below in the comments).
The hard part of a circular economy is not collecting the material. It is creating enough demand for products made recycled content to create the circle.
That is why partnerships like this one matter. Not because they solve everything. The model works, we just need more Australian & New Zealand companies following their lead.
