NSW Recycled Content Procurement Policy
Last week NSW released a new Recycled Content Reporting Guide under its Waste and Sustainable Materials Strategy 2041. From 1 July 2026, government agencies must preference products containing recycled content on an "if not, why not" basis, publish a directory of recycled material suppliers, and report annually on how much recycled content actually ends up in government projects.
We think this is one of the more important announcements of the year, because most reform conversations focus on collection and sorting. This one focuses on the part that actually creates demand, government agencies choosing to buy recycled products by default.
